Japan!

In New Zealand I got very used to talking to the same people everyday. Now that I have no one to talk to, it is time to post my rambling thoughts to the Internet.

They will be copied from my phone notes that I write throughout the day. You have been warned.

Japan.

Day one:

I have landed, cleared customs and got my rail pass. I felt quite anxious on the trains with my giant pack. I felt bad for the people whom I was being pushed against. I made it to my stop and then got lost trying to find my hostel. So there I am, loaded with my packs, walking down alleyways in Tokyo in the dark. I almost had a breakdown, but what good would that do? I made it to my hostel walked up to the fourth floor and found my room. Cute, with only one roommate. Smells like bamboo due to the mats. I like it. My roommate is from Switzerland and talking to her was really comforting.

This hostel is a little quirky and I am glad I am only staying one night. It has shower hours and a curfew. And like most places in Japan requires footwear to be removed and slippers put on instead. The bathroom is what I would have imagined. Cutesy... Or Kawaii! The free Internet works well!

Day two in Japan.

I have managed to navigate the trains from Tokyo to Hiroshima. I also made my first food purchase. It appears to be some sort of fruit and nut bun and unsweetened iced green tea. Will report back.

Was indeed as appeared. Tea was not quite what I was expecting but still good. Still hungry though. Might have an emergency timtam.

They have beverage vending machine EVERYWHERE! Very cool. And more rice paddies then you could shake a stick it. Pretty cool since often there is on paddy in the middle of a housing complex and other times there is one house surrounded by them!

So far all of the trains speak to me in Japanese and English which is cool. I can pick up when they are talking numbers and politeness, but that is about it.

I stupidly did not look up directions to my next hostel when I had Internet. This could be interesting.

I have decided that bullet train is the way to travel. Just don't look out the window so often or you might feel sick. The seats are spacious and comfy. There is a food trolley and cup holders!

Not taking hostel directions led to me wandering back and forth attempting to ask people where this place was. When I arrived I was drenched in sweat and lightheaded from lack of food. I have found there wireless password and am making good use of it.

I am trying to find a decent hostel to stay in Tokyo, but it is proving rather difficult.

It is only 6pm, but I am seriously considering going to bed soon.

I have decided that all hostels in Japan will be a little quirky. This one has shower tokens and the lights are on timers to go off between 11pm and 8 am. I plan on being asleep then anyway.

Tomorrow I will explore Hiroshima and Miyajima!

Books

I have had quite the urge to start reading books again more regularly in the past while, but every time I look at my bookshelf to pick a book, none of them really appeal to me. I have A LOT of books and a fair amount of them I have not read yet.

I still want to read them, but I can seem to get motivated to do it. Has my taste in books changed? I try and think of something (even if I don't have it) that I would like to read and my brain defaults to my current literary likes, but still won't choose one off the shelf that matches those requirements.

I think that If is get into a book I will like it, but that seems harder to do than ever! So frustrating because I LOVE books and used to read all of the time. I am going to try one of them again. Wish me luck!

So last time I met my Internet Japadog friend, I was slightly crushing, but then he was moving to Australia so I decided I just had to get over it.

Now, after the message he sent me I am crushing even harder! Also, message makes it seem like it is reciprocated.

Now I need even more to get into school, quit work, and go visit him in Sydney.

I am scared for my first Bunny Ride tomorrow. I have not done well on group rides in the past and I have not done the trails they are riding tomorrow. But, I do not want to go beginner because I can do those trails without any challenge.

I am so nervous I started biting my nails again! I was doing so well!

Stupid, yes, but I am still nervous!

I have this stupid schoolgirl crush on one of the maintenance guys at work (the electrician). He most definitely talked to me for longer then usual today. Still about kitchen things, but he made a couple of jokes. Anyway, I did a little silent 'squee' afterward.

So silly, but I find him adorable.

I wasn't going to go to the funeral. I made my peace. We said goodbye. Then I realized I was still upset about not going. So, I am going to ask for two more days off work. It is a really good thing that my manager really likes me. I will be tired as heck after this trip, but it will be worth it. Shortest trip to Toronto ever.
